Charles Berner (1929 - 2007) created mind clearing programs, Institute of Ability, and the Enlightenment Intensive, which is a process used more and more widely around the world as a method of finding conscious, direct knowledge of the truth. All of his amazing work was born out of one question:
What makes a human being's life improve?
In the 1950's and 60's Charles Berner searched for the key to helping people achieve personal growth:
It seemed to Charles Berner that every technique he used with his clients in his one-on-one sessions with them gave them results that improved their lives. So why doesn't every technique anyone ever tries just work? Why aren't we all super-healthy and happy all the time?
Most of these techniques didn't work outside of the one-on-one setting. For example, if Berner just told people the technique, it usually wasn't very helpful to them. If people sat by themselves and contemplated things, it could shift their mind around a bit, but their lives didn't significantly improve in their estimation.
In 1963, Charles used some scientific thinking and observed the facts. Out of this emerged the discovery that the key to helping a human being to improve his or her life was in the one-on-one session itself. The key was in the act of communicating.
In proper scientific process, Berner actually tested this out. He sat with people in sessions and used exactly the same techniques he'd developed before to discharge their emotional attachments or help them burn off karma... and then he deliberately failed to listen to them by thinking about other things. (Yes, the scientific process can be very cold-hearted) Sure enough, these clients didn't make progress.
And then, when Berner did listen to them, even without using much in the way of technique, they experienced their lives as improving.
Out of this, Berner came to understand that to improve someone's experience of their life requires true communication, which means two live beings understanding one another. This has now been validated many thousands of times by clearing practitioners around the world.
Real communication... as opposed to conversation
Most interaction between people is pretty much just interrupted monologue. We read all kinds of things into others' words and actions that aren't even true. Sometimes we rearrange our memories of what was said in order to make it better fit our emotional charge. We become isolated egos, looking for validation anywhere we can find it. This is what the mind can become. This is not real communication.
The communication cycle has been observed for many centuries. It's essentially when one person relates a thought to another person so that the thought is transferred and the other understands it... and then repeating this process. When a thought is related to another, it's cleared from your mind. The communication cycle is like a wheel, rolling along a path of progress in whatever direction the series of thoughts takes us. Along the path, we drop off our thoughts, and our minds become lighter and freer.
The human brain is built for real communication. Our giant cerebral cortices contain minds that are made up of thoughts, each of which is an as-yet-unfulfilled intention to communicate to another. Once we successfully communicate the thought, it's gone from our mind. It's not that we can't remember it if we're asked (though often we can't), it's that we just don't think that thought anymore. Doesn't that sound lovely?
Ultimately, our mind can become current, which means it can be empty much of the time. This is a wonderful feeling, because it frees up our attention for experiencing other things.
Helping someone to improve his or her life
The clearing communication cycle is a technique. In this technique, a clearer, which is someone who has a good ability to relate thoughts to others and to understand others' thoughts, gives direct instructions to her client as to what she wants her client to communicate. The client then complies with the clearer's instructions by relating his thoughts that have to do with the clearer's instructions. In essence, the clearing communication cycle technique is:
two human beings, one giving instructions and the other complying with those instructions, using the communication cycle in order to clear the mind of the one receiving the clearing.
Clearing can occur quite rapidly in clearing sessions, as soon as the client becomes able to comply with the clearer's instructions. Our subconscious minds know what we need to deal with, but the conscious mind can get in the way, when it tries to protect us from others. In the clearing communication cycle, the instructions and compliance allow our conscious minds the safety to get this help for our subconscious minds. The key to being helped is in communicating our thoughts and becoming free of them.
Mind clearing with the clearing communication cycle is typically undertaken as a cluster of one to five one- to two-hour sessions over a few days. This is very different from traditional psychotherapy which is usually a long-term investment of weekly or more frequent sessions that produce little if any shift in any given session.
The clearing communication cycle is so powerful a technique that one of Charles Berner's contemporaries packaged the technique up as "auditing" and turned it into a religion by enshrouding it in brainwashing and mythology, in order to create enormous profits for himself and his followers. To me, this is testament to two things: first, how readily many people will give responsibility for their happiness over to religious leaders, and, second, how readily a religion can form around a powerful nugget of truth.
The clearing communication cycle is not a religion or something that is "done" to someone else. It is a technique in which a clearer helps you to help yourself, by giving you the opportunity to communicate your thoughts and to clear your mind.
